Azadî is seeking a talented Illustrator & Book Designer to collaborate on our upcoming coffee table book, The Blow-Ins of Inbhear Scéine. This project celebrates place, people, and story, and we are looking for a creative professional who can bring visual cohesion, warmth, and craft to both the book cover and interior formatting.
This is an exciting opportunity to work on a visually rich, culturally rooted publication with strong storytelling at its core.
About the Project
The Blow-Ins of Inbhear Scéine is a curated coffee table book exploring the lives, stories, and creative spirit of those who have made Inbhear Scéine (Sneem) their home. The book blends portraiture, narrative, and place, and requires a thoughtful visual approach that complements its tone and subject matter.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and illustrate the front and back cover of the book
- Develop a cohesive visual identity for the publication
- Format the interior layout of the book (text, images, captions, sections)
- Prepare print-ready files to professional publishing standards
- Collaborate with the Azadî team to interpret the creative vision
- Incorporate feedback and revisions where required
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in book design and layout, ideally coffee table or art books
- Strong illustration skills with a distinctive, considered style
- Proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop (or equivalent)
- Strong understanding of print production and typography
- Ability to balance visual storytelling with clean, readable layouts
- Excellent attention to detail and time management
Desirable (But Not Essential)
- Experience working on Irish or place-based cultural projects
- Familiarity with short-run or independent publishing
- An appreciation for storytelling, portraiture, and community-led work
Contract Details
- Freelance / Project-based
- Competitive fee, based on experience and scope
- Timeline to be agreed with the successful candidate
- Credit included in the published book
